Land is Life is an Indigenous-led coalition of grassroots organizations and communities around the world. Founded in 1992, Land is Life supports Indigenous communities in their efforts to protect their lands, cultures, and livelihoods, and to increase international recognition of Indigenous peoples’ rights. At the heart of Land is Life is a community-led process guided by a Steering Council of leading Indigenous activists who are stewards of its mission.  Land is Life is a 501(c)3 U.S. nonprofit organization.

Position Description
The Administrative & Development Assistant is located in our Brooklyn-based support office, reports directly to the Executive Director, and works closely with Operations and Program Managers. We seek a responsible individual to manage and enhance our administrative and knowledge management systems, manage program and operations logistics, and directly assist our Executive Director with his daily priorities. Our working environment is informal, collaborative, fast-paced and professional.

Primary Responsibilities:
Office Administration & Executive Director Support
●    Serve as a daily “chief of staff” for Executive Director as well as the NYC support team
●    Manage New York office administrative operations and Executive Director’s calendar of events, travel logistics, weekly tasks
●    Manage the submission and tracking of all data related to the organization's finances, including revenues and expenses, into organization’s accounting system
●     Accompany Executive Director to various meetings to take notes and capture follow up items

Development & Communications Support
●    Maintain Salesforce database of funders, partners and prospects
●    Be daily steward of organization’s “development task list”
●    Complete regular and impromptu donor research
●    Plan and execute fundraising and networking events
●    Maintain organization’s social media presence
●    Assist on development of marketing and communications materials as well as grant proposals and reports
●    Proactively research opportunities for Land is Life to be more visible in the international human rights funding and advocacy space

Program Support
Work with the Program Manager to:
●    Facilitate our regranting initiative by liaising with global staff to monitor reporting deadlines and communicate outcomes
●    Take meeting minutes during communications with global partners and staff
●    Track programmatic expenditures against budgets

Required & Desired Qualifications
●    Bachelor's Degree required
●    Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish required

●    Proficient in MS Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint; Salesforce and/or other database systems
●    Desire and aptitude to learn management of nonprofit accounting systems
●    Proactive problem solver (we are a small team...“shoot first ask questions later”)
●    Excellent interpersonal, communication, and proofreading skills
●    Ability to take on administrative projects with positive energy and optimism
●    Proven interest in international development, environmental protection and human rights and exposure or experience in Indigenous rights a major plus
●    Comfortable in entrepreneurial and nimble environment, working as a resourceful, flexible team member who can wear many hats as needed to meet objectives
●    Capable of multi-tasking, prioritizing, problem-solving and working well independently as well as collaboratively
●    Available to work occasional nights and weekends
●    Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (travel not guaranteed)
