José Proaño, Land is Life´s Amazon program coordinator, is one of the leading anthropologists who has studied the indigenous peoples living in the Yasuní region of Ecuador. In this interview, he speaks on the complexities behind delineating borders, the violence that takes place near oil operations, as well as the obligations of the Ecuadorian state when it comes to guaranteeing the rights of these peoples living in voluntary isolation, and who, independently of the interests of third parties, should have their rights respected.
