The Indigenous Peoples Human Rights Defenders (IPHRD) Network urges the President of Ecuador to intervene on the behalf of Gloria Ushigua, an indigenous woman who has faced multiple threats at the hands of the National Police. The letter states that Ushigua's personal integrity has been violated and her security has been jeopardized. These inalienable rights are protected in multiple international treaties and declarations, and the attack on her security violates both Ecuadorian law and UNDRIP. Among the other requests outlined in the appeal letter are the halt of further oil exploration and the recognition of the Sapara people's right to self-determination.
